The World Conference was neatly put into context by several delegates from abroad. Dianne Delchau, President of U3A Online Australia, said "the conference gave an opportunity for people from all parts of the world to meet and share.... it presented a wonderful opportunity to reach out to people we would otherwise not be able to reach.

Wensley Wilcox, delegate from New Zealand, commented "as U3A members, we are supporters of life-long learning and the most significant “learning” comes from being prepared to embrace new experiences as well as out of books. I think you may rest assured that we counted ourselves lucky to have attended the conference."
Our picture shows delegates from New Zealand, Australia, UK, and Iceland.

A 16-year old has created a search site called Good50, basically an enlarged-type mod of Google. Sunmee and her sister were inspired by seeing their grandfather struggle with Google, trying to make out text and distinguishing the ads from the search results.

It is especially useful for people with poor vision. Go to http://good50.com/ and try it for yourself.

From J.R. Gupta, President, Senior Citizens Council of Delhi
A news item appeared in The Times Of India on 16th January 2010 about a proposal to debar senior citizens at the age of 72 and above to drive their own vehicles. Senior Citizens at large expressed their resentments and the matter was taken up by the Senior Citizens Council of Delhi on behalf of 9 lakhs senior citizens living in Delhi with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The Ministry says it is in the process of reviewing the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 by an Expert Committee, but no recommendation has yet been made.

From Stella Porter, U3A - UK National Storytelling Network Co-ordinator - 2010 World Conference
My sincere thanks go to Tom Holloway and to Dr Dak, for the invitation to address U3A members at the 2010 World Conference in Chitrakoot. It was truly an experience I would not have missed; and the opportunity to meet with and form friendships with so many U3A members from India and across the world was an added bonus.

Recently we have seen a revival of the ancient and magical art of storytelling; with the inaugurated of the first National Storytelling Laureate Taffy Thomas MBE in January 2010
With the honour of representing U3A - UK at the conference, and as the National Storytelling Network Co-ordinator was thrilled to hear the many stories of the exiled Lord Rama who spent 12 years in the spiritual village and surrounding area of the Chitrakoot University. And it is not surprising that so many of the Delicates at the conference have been inspired to include storytelling into their U3A curriculum.
My thanks also to Tom Holloway & his young Team who have agreed to work on a "U3A World Storytelling Website" - Watch this space.....
