The Indian Society of Universities of the Third Age are proud to support this bold initiative on the part of Shri R N Mital, President of APSCCon and Vice-President of AISCCon, who says "It shows that we Elders are united when it comes to a common cause, though we may belong to different Associations, Federations or Confederations. I am therefore, confident that this joint effort by all Senior Citizens of the Country will be a success and we will be able to make the required impact on our Rulers."

"Law can definitely curb abuse of elders in the family. The enactment
of Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Welfare act gives adequate
teeth", argued a group of High School students in a recent debate,
sponsored by Jnanajothi U3A. Another group vehemently opposed it, stating
that a number of laws exist on paper only, and anyway parents rarely go
to court to get redress and they would rather suffer.

R Gupta writes from Delhi: For the 1st time, on the occasion of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, Confederation of Senior Citizens Associations of Delhi (an umbrella body for elders) organised a Candle Light March for drawing the attention of Govt. of India and Govt. of Delhi on 15th June at historical place, Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, in which more than 300 Senior Citizens representatives of various Senior Citizens Associations participated from all over Delhi.

Chinmaya U3A Rewa in collaboration with Chinmaya Vanaprasth Sansthan held
a 5 day camp at the Kalyanika Devsthanam at Vill Dol, shown here, (height
6000 feet) in district Almore from June.6.2010 to June 11, 2010 in the
salubrious environment in the Himalyas, where in 60 participants from
all over the country attended.
The resource persons were Swami Prashantanand ji, Shri S.S. Agrawal and myself.
Continuing their excellent work with schools, Jnanajyothi U3A Bengalaru recently distributed stationery kits to children of domestic service providers under the VIDYAKIRAN scheme, a Capacity Building project of Senior Citizens.
